This is the story of AAMBIVERT, and How creating fashion from discarded materials led to the stage at Dubai Fashion Week.
In a world where fast fashion produces 92 million tons of textile waste annually, one emerging designer proved that sustainability, innovation, and bold creativity aren't just compatible—they're revolutionary.

The Problem: Fast Fashion's Throwaway Culture
Fast fashion has become a staple of the 21st century, driven by rapid consumerism and the constant demand for new trends. But the consequences are devastating. Every year, millions of garments end up in landfills after being worn just once. The environmental impact is undeniable: water pollution, carbon emissions, textile waste, and the exploitation of workers in pursuit of cheap, mass-produced clothing.
As a designer, I came to understand these consequences deeply. I realized that continuing to follow conventional design practices meant contributing to the very problem I wanted to solve. So I chose a different path: repurposing unwanted fabrics, deadstock materials, and discarded garments into innovative, fashion-forward pieces.
A Designer's Vision: Building From Scraps
By re-purposing unwanted fabrics and deadstock materials, I could breathe new life into discarded materials. Each piece tells a unique story, blending sustainability with bold, futuristic design. The concept was clear: create clothes that don't just look good—they carry a message about the future we're building.
Drawing inspiration from dystopian and cyberpunk aesthetics, I developed AAMBIVERT: a collection grounded in body armor, tactical gear, protective wear, and compression pads. But the aesthetic goes deeper than fashion. The dystopian silhouettes serve as a warning about overproduction, while the neutral and white color palette represents hope—a utopian future if we act now.

The collection was designed for individuals who want to dress with intention, confidence, and awareness. Not for conformity, but for empowerment. In gaming terms, it's about creating your own avatar—your unique identity expressed through clothing.
UON Fashion Journey
My expansion into rental fashion and sustainable practices didn't happen in isolation. At the University of Northampton, studying Fashion, Textiles, Footwear and Accessories, I was surrounded by educators and peers who encouraged questioning the status quo.
The university recognized that new designers need to consider the impact of their work. As one reflection on my journey noted, "In a world driven by trends and rapid consumerism, the fashion industry often falls prey to the allure of fast fashion." But by promoting rental over buying and using repurposed materials, it's possible to "pave the way for a more responsible and conscious future."

This academic foundation gave me the confidence to launch AAMBIVERT not just as a brand, but as a movement challenging throwaway culture and promoting a more ethical approach to fashion.
Dubai Fashion Week: The Moment Everything Changed
Then came Graduate Fashion Week x Dubai Fashion Week.
I was selected as one of just 28 graduates to showcase their collections on the prestigious stages of FAD Dubai and Dubai Fashion Week. Walking into that event, I didn't just bring a collection—I brought a mission.
The Experience:

“Adrien Roberts, Amalia Adela S. & Kamyak Roberts, DFW”-2023
The week was transformative. I networked with designers and fashion professionals from around the world. I attended talks hosted by fashion icons like Adrien Roberts, GFW's chair, who was genuinely impressed by my sustainable approach. The conversations centered on transparency, ethics, sustainability, and the responsibility of new designers to reshape the industry.
I took on a behind-the-scenes role, coordinating tasks to ensure smooth operations. I attended dressing sessions, watched prestigious designers' collections, and participated in industry meetings that expanded my understanding of how to move fashion forward.
Highlight Moment:
the real pinnacle? Seeing my AAMBIVERT collection on the big stage of Dubai Fashion Week. Watching models wear pieces I'd created from repurposed materials, pieces that carried a message about sustainability and empowerment—it was moving. It felt like validation that a different approach to fashion is possible.
By choosing to rent AAMBIVERT pieces, you're:
- Extending garment lifecycles— Each piece is worn multiple times instead of once
- Reducing production demand — Fewer new garments need to be made
- Supporting circular fashion — Materials are recycled and repurposed continuously
- Creating your avatar — Expressing your unique identity with intention and confidence
- Building a movement — Joining a global community of conscious creators and consumers
